Drill Holding Devices

The drilling machine has vertical spindle (rotating component) holds and turns the cutting tool or work pieces. Use 3 types of work-holding devices which fit the spindle are the geared drill chuck, the drill sleeve and the drill socket. Normally the larger drilling machines include a Morse taper in spindle at the bottom end.
•             Geared drill chucks have various sizes, common one with the 3/8 or 1/2-inch capacity. These have straight shanks generally held in the spindle of a drilling machine by inserting shank into the spindle's internal taper and then seating the shank into the taper with a light struck of hammer. The drill is then locked into the chuck through a chuck key that 3 adjustable jaws clamp onto the drill.
•             Drill sleeves and drill sockets are made such to add to or subtract from the Morse taper for fitting into a specified socket or sleeve and taper shank of drill to fit the spindle. Drill socket is also used as extensions sockets.
•             Drill drifts are flat, tapered keys with one rounded edge that fits into a spindle chuck’s slot and forces a tapered shank drill loose. So it is inserted through a slot in the spindle. Most modern machines have a built in drift. Typically these are used to remove tapered-shank drills or accessories from drill press spindle.

Work holding devices hold the work steady hold a workpiece to a cutting tool for an accurate hole to be drilled accurately, so that safe drilling operation can be accomplished. Drilling support devices hold the work piece above the worktable to align the work piece to drill a hole straight into the work piece. Some devices are fairly used for simple drilling operations, while other devices are specially designed for more precise during machining operations.
A machine table vise with its jaws clamp against the work piece ensures a secure hold. This vise is used to be bolted to the drilling table that lies against the drill column to hold firmly. Some table vises:
•             Standard machine table vise is equipped with 2 precision ground jaws for holding onto the work and a lead screw to tighten the one movable jaw to the work
•             Clamps are the small portable vises which bear against the work piece and holding devices to stead the job. Clamps are of numerous styles and sizes that meet work-holding needs. Some types include the C-clamp, the parallel clamp, the machine strap clamp, the bent-tail machine clamp, the U-clamp, and the finger machine clamp
•             Swivel vise is has an adjustable base that allow the vise to be swiveled through 360° on a horizontal plane.
Angle plates are designed in a 900 angle with slots and bolt holes for stable work setting.
Drill jigs are utilized for tapping, reaming, chamfering, counter boring and drilling jobs for locating workpieces having location surfaces clamped into a jig so that holes are drilled in the same location on each piece. The metalworking jig facilitates the drill to position the holes precisely through bushings to guide cutting.
Cutting fluids keep the workpiece at a stable temperature
Coolant and Lubrication in Machining help dissipate the high heat caused due to friction when performing metal cutting. These get better the end work and let achieve best efficiency at varied cutting speeds. The cutting fluid in machining cools the process and improves a tool life. Through proper cutting fluids, the machining processes such as drilling, reaming and tapping of various materials can be achieved qualitatively. Certain cutting fluids of versatile benefits can be useful for any machining operation.

Factors to consider before purchasing new machinery

Focusing on the engineering sector, when a person advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, he can find himself in the dilemma to obtain accurate information about industrial machine tools. It is apparent that suppliers of these engineering products highlight the advantageous characteristics and technical specifications of their products as well as downplaying the presence of limitations in their machines.
So, what are the important things to consider when selecting a machine? Here are some useful parameters to evaluate any machine product and make the right decision.

Know the material used to build equipment
High quality material selection is as important aspect for developing a reliable machine by the manufacturers. The mechanical properties of the material used in design are imperative for the durability of the machine. Therefore, ask for factors like:
Strength: You should consider asking the manufacturer or seller that the material used has ability to withstand friction forces and torque placed on it.
Brittleness: The machine should not break or shatter under conditions of repetitive tasks.
Hardness: The material should be rigid enough to allow negligible change in the shape or size of an object even when the pressure applied to the surface is high. Verify the degree of hardness with set govt. certified hardness values.
Corrosion Resistance: Stainless steel is widely used by the manufacturers for making the structure and components of the machine because of its notable corrosion resistance property. However, stainless steel also corrodes if it exhibits a much low corrosion rate. Stainless steel is available in various grades like 303, 304, 310, 410, 440 etc having different rust rates. Thus ask the grade of the material so that your machine can work effectively for long even under demanding working conditions.
Wear Resistance:  check for fine surface finishes of the machine and the functional characteristic of wear resistance so that the machine can handle repeated multiple forces in normal use.

The design principles and basic concepts of Standards
Standards General requirements for all machines like safety regulations to develop the machine.
A standards represent the highest level and are concerned with essential safety standards.
B standards are specific requirements on safety and safeguarding measures to ensure the maximum protection against potential hazards during the machine’s operation.
Type C standards explain particular type of machines.
The awareness of applicable standards and Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews (PHSR) will assist you to purchase a reliable machine.

Value Quality over Price
There's nothing wrong to see at price tags before buying, but pay more attention on quality.
In the market, there are cheaper Chinese machines available but these do not stand on quality. Indian machines offer superior quality and can be availed at genuine prices. Take time to do online research, go through customer reviews and feedbacks beforehand.
Also when you really want to save money and you invest for the lowest model available at less cost, which no doubt works in some cases. However, it makes sense to look for productivity, serviceability, operating cost and durability for which spending a little extra to avoid potential problems.
Productivity:  Increased rate of production will definitely help grow your business. So pick the right model as per your production need.
Serviceability:  Talk to a supplier (or manufacturer) about the service of machine would be provided by them, if extra care is also required for maintenance.
Durability: Since for a big investment you require longer working life of the product, so, you must confirm the stability standards and technology that has been used during production.
Operating Cost:  Choosing a lowest model at lower buying cost but you want more production level, then certainly the machine will add to your power bills, consume plenty of time and labor engagement. However, here better option is to pick higher version spending a little more.

By and large, to make the right purchases, it is essential to be aware with regard to all the mentioned factors. Spend your hard earned money the right way!
